HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage

Course description

This qualification reflects the role of remedial massage therapists who work with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance or restrictions in range of motion (ROM). Practitioners may be self-employed or work within a larger health service.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 200 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Course duration

This course is delivered over 52 weeks of full time study. This includes 23 weeks of scheduled class time at the Skills Institute Australia training facility at 20 hours per week  and 23 weeks of scheduled, practical, workplace-based training. Six weeks holidays are also included.

Delivery method

This program utilises a blended delivery mode which incorporates face to face delivery, workshops, individual assignments, team based assignments and/or simulated environment. Participants will attend scheduled training sessions and practical work in the fully-equipped training facility in Slacks Creek, south of Brisbane. Students will also complete practical work requirements at workplaces with which Skills Institute Australia has implemented a training agreement in accordance with the guidelines specified in the individual units.

Pre-requisites

All students must be at least 18 years of age.

Academic requirements:

  • Satisfactory completion of year 12 or equivalent
  • Overseas students require a language proficiency of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent

There are no specific academic prerequisites for any of the units in this course.

This course provides participants with the skills to obtain the occupational position across various industrial sectors. Job roles and titles vary across these different industry sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:

Academic pathways

Individuals who successfully complete the Diploma of Remedial Massage may continue on to further study in the remedial health industry.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Students who have completed any of the units of study or have practical experience that may be used for recognition of prior learning must contact Skills Institute Australia prior to enrollment.

Assessment

As this is a competency based program, assessment continues throughout the duration of the course until the participant either achieves competency in the assessment tasks or a further training need is identified and addressed.

This foundation must be provided and assessed as part of a holistic approach to delivery and assessment of this qualification.
